In the small village of Sabanagrande, you’ll find the talented makers of the Atuto group. With the importance of detail in mind, this community of craftsmen develops beautifully handcrafted pieces made from clay, metal, stone, and wood. For decades, Kalalou has worked with Atuto to help bring our design and vision to life.

From sketch to sample to the individual pieces you sell every day, our Honduran products are designed in-house and thoughtfully crafted with your customer in mind. The journey begins right here at Kalalou headquarters in Jackson, MS. Our Product Development team spends countless hours researching, brainstorming, and sketching out trendy and upcoming design ideas to send to Atuto. When our product development team visits Honduras, our designs sent ahead of time are fired and waiting on finishes. Surrounded by

gorgeous sunsets and luscious foliage, full days are spent in the factory choosing finishes and working with the master potters to achieve that unique Kalalou look! We love the earthy look of our naturally crafted river stone products and are so excited to introduce a plethora of new clay vessels, hanging pots, and plant stands to keep up with the ever-growing house plant movement!

Not only have we found consistent, high-quality products for our customers, but we’ve also made personal connections and developed many friendships with the people of Sabanagrande, Honduras. ”Forty years ago I bought a basket for two dollars in the straw market of Ocho Rios, Jamaica. I had paid forty dollars for one similar back in Mississippi. Doug could not get the 2000% markup out of his head, and thus began the first adventure that created our incredible business known today as Kalalou. When fate tapped us on the shoulder that day, we never looked back. We only moved forward and worked very hard, growing a business from nothing. Two employees (that would be Doug and me) turned into one hundred. A garage turned into a 200,000-square-foot distribution center. The small island country of Jamaica led to doing business in nine countries spanning the globe. And those gorgeous Jamaican baskets led the way to over 1500 gift and home accessories offered in this catalog. It has been a whirlwind, and thirty-seven years have flown by! When we have a moment to catch our breath, we reminisce about all of our stories and how we created Kalalou…one adventure at a time.”
